Abstract

Capstone projects are a critical component of engineering education, bridging academic theory with practical application and fostering industry readiness. This study examines the implementation and evaluation of capstone projects within an engineering program, emphasizing their role in skill development, innovation, and professional preparedness. The research focuses on a rubric-based assessment framework applied across multiple project phases—problem identification, design, development, evaluation, and presentation—to ensure alignment with Outcome-Based Education (OBE) objectives. A three-year analysis of program-level data reveals measurable improvements in project quality, student competencies, and placement outcomes, alongside increased participation in sponsored projects and national and international competitions. The findings highlight that structured evaluation, coupled with real-world engagement, significantly enhances problem-solving, teamwork, and communication skills. This paper concludes that integrating rubric-driven assessment with OBE principles provides a replicable model for technical institutions aiming to produce industry-ready graduates while promoting excellence in academic project work.
