Abstract
Six sigma a statistically based quality improvement methodology, leads to breakthrough in product/process quality,customer satisfaction and productivity. The concept of six sigma was pioneered at Motorola in the 1980's and the concept was to reduce the number of defects to as low as 3.4 parts per million opportunities. This paper aims at understanding the concept of six sigma, its statistical meaning and benefits of implementing Six Sigma in various sectors like education,healthcare,finance, manufacturing Engineering and Construction, R&D etc.
